Although August is hot, it is the best time of year to see a multitude of migrating shorebirds. Join co-field trip leaders Paddy Cunningham and Michele Louden on a field trip that will focus on identifying shorebirds based on their feeding behaviors and silhouette.
In the field, you will learn the difference between plovers, sandpipers and larger shorebirds. Target species usually found only at this time of year include - Wilson’s Phalarope, Pectoral and Upland Sandpipers. Also, possibilities of Black and Gull-billed Terns, Roseate Spoonbill, Fulvous and Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Limpkin, Grey-headed Swamphen, Yellow Warbler and LOTS of wading birds.
**Carpooling of participants with a limit of 15 birders.
**Open to all levels, but field conditions will be tough and identification challenging without prior experience.
**Bring plenty of water, bagged lunch, and sun protection.
**. Spotting scopes are encouraged.
