Please fill out the form below and submit it to be put on the waitlist and we will email you if and when a spot opens up. Thank you.

Join Paddy Cunningham for a Better Bird ID Workshop where you’ll learn a 12-step approach to improve your ability to identify birds. Topics to be covered include bird family groups, behavior, silhouette, habitat, field marks/plumage, commonality/abundance, seasonality, birding by ear, getting to know your neighbors, use of checklists, as well as eBird, Merlin and Audubon Apps and utilizing the process of elimination. The class will include an informative PowerPoint, numerous handouts, workshop activity and a walk at the Tropical Audubon Society Steinberg Nature Grounds to look for birds. Bring binoculars (loaner binoculars will also be available) and a field guide if you have one. Also, if you have bird apps on your phone, please bring them as well.

The workshop will be followed by a pot-luck lunch and an optional Raptor Identification Workshop.

Hawks Galore-Raptor Identification Workshop (optional)

1-2:30pm

Join Paddy for a Raptor ID talk. By using silhouettes and looking at the overall shape of raptors such as the wide wings and tails of Buteos, the long tail and boxy wings of  Accipiters’ and the angled, pointed wings of Falcons, you can better identify raptors in the field. Raptors flight behaviors offer another clue to help improve your identification accuracy. A fun hawk jeopardy activity will follow.

(For anyone interested in attending only the Hawks Galore-Raptor ID Workshop, please email Ana Lima at hello@phoebesbirding.org).
