Black-and-white Warbler by Kirsten Hines

NOTE: This trip is FULL.

We are no longer accepting RSVPs.

Join the Phoebes for a special field trip to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden on Saturday, November 16, 7:30am. We’ll explore the lush gardens in search of wintering warblers, raptors, hummingbirds and other species at the 83-acre tropical paradise in the heart of Miami. We’ll be guided by Phoebe Kirsten Hines, who photographed birds at the gardens for Birds of Fairchild, an award-winning coffee-table book that lists nearly 200 species recorded at the garden, accompanied by stunning photos.

As part of the field trip, we will conduct a bird count and submit our observations to eBird for scientific purposes. In this way, we will contribute information to scientists about the native birds of South Florida, especially those that Fairchild shares with the rest of the surrounding ecosystems.

The entrance fee to Fairchild is being waived for the Phoebes. We are grateful to the Gardens for extending this courtesy and to Phoebe Stacey Kaufman who helped arrange the collaboration.

Founded and named after Dr. David Fairchild, one of the most famous plant explorers in history, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s outstanding botanical collection has been a fundamental part of the institution’s existence since 1938. Fairchild is home to a significant collection of palms, cycads and rare tropical plants.  It is also home to the only tropical rainforest in the continental US and Wings of the Tropics, an exotic butterfly exhibit featuring butterfly specimens from all over the world.

Note: This field trip is limited to 20 participants. Registration required.
